A successful factory trial confirms that the machine can process the prepared material under selected settings. It does not mean that the same machine will immediately reach stable production after installation with different paper, operators and factory conditions.

Stable production requires a controlled transition from testing to routine operation.

Use Representative Raw Material

The trial material should be as close as possible to the paper the factory will use during normal production.

Confirm:

  • Jumbo roll width

  • Roll diameter

  • Core dimensions

  • Basis weight

  • Number of plies

  • Tensile strength

  • Softness

  • Moisture

  • Surface condition

A lightweight tissue grade and a heavier paper grade may require different tension, embossing and cutting settings. Nonwoven materials can vary even more in thickness, stretch and surface friction.

If the final production material is unavailable during the factory trial, the test record should clearly identify the substitute material.

Record the Initial Machine Settings

Once an acceptable product has been produced, record the relevant settings.

These may include:

  • Paper tension

  • Embossing pressure

  • Perforation length

  • Rewinding diameter

  • Vacuum settings

  • Folding adjustment

  • Cutting length

  • Blade settings

  • Packing temperature

  • Film position

  • Conveyor speed

The purpose is not to create one permanent setting. The record provides a known starting point when the same product is manufactured again.

Inspect the First Finished Products

Do not increase speed immediately after the machine starts running.

Check the first finished products for:

  • Dimensions

  • Ply alignment

  • Embossing appearance

  • Perforation consistency

  • Roll diameter

  • Core position

  • Folding accuracy

  • Sheet count

  • Cut surface

  • Pack sealing

  • Finished-pack appearance

Corrections are easier to make before a large quantity of nonconforming products has been produced.

Increase Speed in Controlled Steps

A machine may run correctly at low speed but reveal feeding, transfer or packing problems at a higher operating rate.

Increase the speed gradually and observe:

  • Paper web stability

  • Product accumulation

  • Sensor response

  • Cutting rhythm

  • Conveyor transfer

  • Packing-material tracking

  • Finished-product discharge

  • Operator workload

If one process cannot keep pace, identify the bottleneck before increasing the upstream machine speed.

Balance the Complete Line

Stable converting does not guarantee stable finished-pack production.

For a connected line, compare the practical capacity of:

  • Rewinding or folding

  • Cutting

  • Product transfer

  • Counting and grouping

  • Retail packing

  • Secondary packing

  • Carton handling

The slowest process determines the practical output.

Short accumulation conveyors can reduce the effect of brief interruptions. They cannot compensate for a permanent capacity mismatch.

Standardize Product Changeover

A changeover may involve:

  • Different raw material

  • New finished dimensions

  • Different core size

  • New perforation length

  • New embossing pattern

  • Different pack quantity

  • New film or box

  • Printing artwork changes

Prepare a checklist for each regular product. Record the required parts, settings and inspection points.

After each changeover, inspect the first products before continuous production resumes.

Train Operators Around the Process

Operator training should cover more than control-panel buttons.

Operators should understand:

  • The production sequence

  • The effect of raw-material variation

  • Safe material threading

  • Normal machine sounds and movements

  • Quality inspection points

  • Changeover procedures

  • Cleaning requirements

  • Basic fault identification

  • When to stop the machine

A trained operator can identify a developing problem before it causes extensive waste or equipment damage.

Separate Production and Maintenance Records

Production records can track:

  • Product specification

  • Material batch

  • Operating settings

  • Output

  • Waste

  • Changeover time

  • Quality issues

Maintenance records can track:

  • Lubrication

  • Blade replacement

  • Belt and chain inspection

  • Sensor cleaning

  • Pneumatic leaks

  • Electrical alarms

  • Replaced components

Combining this information helps the factory identify repeated production losses and maintenance patterns.

Focus on Repeatability

Stable production means the factory can reproduce an acceptable product using defined material, settings and operating procedures.

The goal is not to run once at the highest displayed speed. The goal is to maintain consistent product quality, practical output and manageable operator work over repeated shifts.

A controlled commissioning period gives the factory time to build reliable settings, train personnel and balance the connected production stages before full-volume orders are scheduled.
