01 · MACHINE INTRODUCTION

Machine overview and suitable production use

3-Lane Facial Tissue Folding Machine

The 3-Lane Facial Tissue Folding Machine is a compact converting machine for producing V-fold and interfolded facial tissues from jumbo tissue rolls. It combines raw paper feeding, embossing, fixed-blade cutting, air-suction folding and tissue counting in one machine.

With a maximum raw paper width of 560 mm, the machine is suitable for smaller factories, new tissue-converting projects and manufacturers requiring a lower-width facial tissue folding configuration.

The machine has a design speed of approximately 60 to 100 m/min. Under stable paper and production conditions, the normal operating speed is approximately 80 m/min.

Suitable Facial Tissue Products

  • V-fold facial tissues

  • Interfolded facial tissues

  • Soft-pack facial tissues

  • Two-ply facial tissues

  • Three-ply facial tissues

  • Embossed facial tissues

  • Facial tissue logs for subsequent cutting and packaging

The machine produces folded tissue logs rather than fully packaged retail products. Separate cutting and packing equipment must be selected according to whether the final product is supplied in a soft pack, box or multi-pack bundle.

Air-Suction Folding

The folding section uses vacuum airflow to control the paper during continuous production. A 7.5 kW high-pressure fan supplies the vacuum required for stable paper adsorption and interfolding.

Air-suction folding reduces uncontrolled paper movement inside the folding section and helps maintain a consistent overlap between adjacent tissue sheets.

Vacuum condition, raw paper quality and web tension must remain stable during production. Insufficient airflow or uneven paper tension may affect tissue alignment and folding consistency.

Spiral Fixed-Blade Cutting

The cutting section uses a spiral fixed-blade structure to separate the paper web before folding. The blade position and mechanical settings are prepared according to the required finished tissue dimensions.

The standard finished tissue size is approximately 200 × 170 mm with a tolerance of ±2 mm. The cutting dimensions can be adjusted within the machine’s supported mechanical range.

The required unfolded and folded tissue dimensions should be confirmed before machine manufacture, especially when the planned product differs from the standard size.

Embossing Configuration

A complete embossing assembly is included in the standard configuration. The number of embossing assemblies can be selected according to the required tissue structure and production plan.

Embossing can improve the visual appearance and apparent thickness of facial tissues. Customized embossing rollers may be prepared according to an approved pattern.

Embossing pressure should match the number of paper plies, tissue basis weight and tensile strength. Excessive pressure may weaken or tear the paper, while insufficient pressure may produce an unclear pattern.

Counting and Tissue Log Formation

The machine uses skip counting to identify the required tissue quantity during production. The counting arrangement helps separate continuous folded tissue into logs for subsequent cutting and packaging.

The final number of sheets per retail pack is also affected by the downstream tissue log cutter and packing machine. The folding machine, cutter and wrapper should therefore be configured around the same product specification.

Manual Paper Threading and Jog Operation

Initial paper threading is completed manually. Operators guide the paper through the feeding, embossing, cutting and folding sections before normal production begins.

The machine includes a jog function for paper threading, mechanical adjustment, inspection and maintenance. Jog operation allows the machine to move at a controlled rate while the operator checks the paper path and working components.

Production Speed

The design speed is approximately 60 to 100 m/min, while the stable operating speed is approximately 80 m/min under suitable conditions.

Actual production speed depends on:

  • Raw paper strength and basis weight

  • Number of paper plies

  • Jumbo roll quality

  • Embossing pressure

  • Finished tissue dimensions

  • Vacuum airflow

  • Paper threading and tension adjustment

  • Normal cleaning and maintenance

The machine speed should not be treated as finished-pack output. Pack output also depends on the downstream cutting, wrapping and bundling equipment.

Machine Structure and Utilities

The reference machine dimensions are approximately 4300 × 1350 × 2035 mm. The reference weight is approximately 2500 kg, including the unwind frame.

The vacuum fan power is approximately 7.5 kW, while the main machine power is approximately 3 kW. The reference combined power is therefore approximately 10.5 kW.

The minimum required compressed-air pressure is approximately 0.6 MPa. The destination voltage, frequency and electrical standard should be confirmed before manufacturing.

Supporting Equipment

The folding machine can operate as an individual converting machine or connect with downstream equipment according to the required packaging method.

Available supporting equipment includes:

  • Facial tissue log accumulator

  • Semi-automatic band-saw tissue cutter

  • Automatic rotary tissue log cutter

  • Soft-pack facial tissue wrapping machine

  • Facial tissue bundling machine

  • Box tissue packing machine

  • Finished-product conveyors

  • Date coding equipment

  • Air compressor

Information Required Before Configuration

Before confirming the machine, provide:

  • Jumbo roll width and diameter

  • Paper basis weight

  • Number of paper plies

  • Unfolded tissue dimensions

  • Folded tissue dimensions

  • Sheets per pack

  • Embossing requirement

  • Required operating speed

  • Soft-pack or box-pack requirement

  • Destination voltage and frequency

Configuration Note

The 3-Lane Facial Tissue Folding Machine is an individual converting machine, not a complete facial tissue production line. The standard machine completes tissue feeding, embossing, cutting, interfolding and counting.

Individual pack cutting, soft-pack wrapping, box packing and multi-pack bundling require separate downstream equipment. Final machine configuration should be confirmed according to the raw paper, tissue dimensions and required packaging format.

02 · WORKING PRINCIPLE

How the machine processes the material

The 3-Lane Facial Tissue Folding Machine converts jumbo tissue rolls into continuously interfolded facial tissue logs. The machine completes raw paper feeding, embossing, fixed-blade cutting, air-suction folding and skip counting in one continuous process.

The required jumbo tissue rolls are installed on the unwind frame according to the number of paper plies. Initial paper threading is completed manually. The operator guides each paper web through the feeding rollers, embossing assembly and folding section before normal production begins.

The raw paper passes through the embossing assembly before entering the cutting and folding section. The embossing rollers form the selected surface pattern and improve the appearance and apparent thickness of the finished facial tissue.

The number of embossing assemblies can be selected according to the required product and paper structure. Embossing pressure must be adjusted according to the tissue basis weight, number of plies and paper strength.

After embossing, the paper enters the spiral fixed-blade cutting system. The blade separates the paper web according to the configured tissue dimensions before the sheets enter the folding section.

The machine uses continuous air-suction folding. A 7.5 kW high-pressure fan provides vacuum airflow to control the paper during folding and form stable interfolded tissue stacks.

The standard finished tissue size is approximately 200 × 170 mm with a tolerance of ±2 mm. The cutting size can be adjusted within the supported mechanical range according to the confirmed finished product.

The skip-counting system identifies the required tissue quantity during production. The completed facial tissue logs are discharged for manual collection or transfer to separate cutting and packaging equipment.

The machine includes a jog function for initial paper threading, machine adjustment, inspection and maintenance. The normal operating speed should be selected according to the raw paper quality, paper plies, embossing pressure, tissue dimensions and vacuum condition.

This machine produces folded facial tissue logs and does not complete individual pack cutting or packaging. A tissue log cutter, soft-pack wrapper, bundling machine or box-packing machine must be selected separately according to the required finished package.
