A 7-lane facial tissue folding machine completed a factory trial run to check paper feeding, web alignment, folding overlap, sheet counting and tissue log formation.

The trial was arranged around the material and product requirements prepared for this project. It was not intended to represent every possible paper grade, sheet size or packing format.

Preparation Before the Trial

Before jumbo tissue rolls were installed, the machine was checked without material.

The preparation covered:

  • Paper path positions

  • Folding components

  • Transmission sections

  • Vacuum connections

  • Sensors

  • Operating controls

  • Lubrication points

  • Emergency-stop functions

Each paper web needs to follow the correct feeding path before entering the folding section. Incorrect routing or initial alignment may affect folding stability even when the machine’s mechanical movements are operating normally.

The raw material was then positioned according to the planned feeding arrangement and number of plies.

Paper Feeding and Alignment

During the trial, the operating team observed the movement of the paper webs from the jumbo rolls to the folding section.

Facial tissue paper is sensitive to tension changes. Excessive tension may affect softness and sheet appearance, while insufficient control can result in wrinkles or unstable web tracking.

The operating settings therefore need to reflect the material used for the trial. A setting prepared for one basis weight or paper quality should not automatically be treated as suitable for every raw material.

Web alignment was checked before the machine proceeded to continuous folding.

Folding Overlap

The interfolding process allows the next sheet to rise when one tissue sheet is removed from the pack.

During the test, the folding overlap and sheet alignment were observed over repeated cycles. The team checked whether the folded tissue maintained a consistent structure and whether the edges remained reasonably aligned.

Folding performance depends on the relationship between the machine adjustment, vacuum system and raw material. The trial therefore considered the production process as a whole rather than checking only the mechanical speed.

Counting and Tissue Log Formation

The counting system was checked together with tissue log formation and discharge.

The finished tissue log needs to match the requirements of the downstream cutting process. Log length, sheet number and product arrangement should therefore be confirmed with the intended facial tissue log saw and packing format.

The discharged tissue logs were checked for general shape and handling stability. A tissue log that becomes excessively deformed may be more difficult to transfer or cut consistently.

Vacuum and Continuous Operation

Vacuum supports paper control during the folding process. The trial checked the response of the related connections and the stability of paper movement during repeated operation.

A short machine movement is not enough to evaluate the complete folding process. Continuous observation helps identify whether paper feeding, folding and discharge remain coordinated over multiple operating cycles.

The actual production result can still vary with raw material quality, environmental conditions, product dimensions and operator settings.

Downstream Equipment

The facial tissue folding machine produces folded tissue logs. Cutting and packing require additional equipment.

Depending on the final product, the machine may connect with:

  • Facial tissue log saw

  • Soft pack tissue packing machine

  • Bottom-draw tissue packing machine

  • Transfer conveyor

  • Bundling or case-packing equipment

The selected equipment should match the sheet dimensions, sheets per pack, pack format and required level of automation.
