Producing Two Roll Tissue Categories in One Factory
A flexible production system can help a tissue converter respond to different local markets without investing in a completely separate machine for every roll tissue product.
Toilet paper and kitchen towel share several converting processes, including jumbo roll unwinding, embossing, perforation, rewinding, log cutting and packing.
However, this does not mean the two products can always be manufactured using exactly the same settings or components. The raw material, sheet dimensions, roll diameter, embossing, lamination and packing requirements must be reviewed before one equipment arrangement is selected for both categories.
Compare the Finished Products
Standard toilet paper commonly uses:
Smaller sheet dimensions
Lower paper basis weight
Smaller finished-roll diameter
Standard paper cores or coreless formats
Plain, edge or full embossing
Larger multi-roll retail packs
Kitchen towel commonly uses:

The selected machinery must accommodate the maximum paper width, basis weight, core size and finished-roll diameter included in the confirmed product range.
Raw Material Requirements
Toilet paper and kitchen towel may use different jumbo tissue paper.
The customer should provide separate raw material specifications for each finished product, including:
Jumbo roll width
Jumbo roll diameter
Paper basis weight
Number of plies
Paper strength
Paper softness
Moisture condition
Required lamination
The unwinding and tension-control system must handle the complete confirmed material range.
A configuration suitable for light bathroom tissue should not automatically be assumed to process heavier kitchen towel paper at the same practical speed.

The rewinding machine should support the required:

Changing from toilet paper to kitchen towel may require adjustments or replacement of selected components.

The changeover procedure should be documented so operators can restore the settings for repeated product batches.
Embossing and Lamination
Toilet paper may use edge embossing, full embossing or a simpler pattern.
Kitchen towel often requires stronger embossing to increase bulk and improve the appearance of absorbent sheets. Some products also use laminated embossing to bond the plies and produce a more defined pattern.
If custom embossing rollers are required, the customer should confirm the effective width, pattern drawing and surface requirements before production.
The lamination unit should only be included when the kitchen towel specification requires it. Adding lamination increases the equipment scope, glue requirements, adjustment work and maintenance tasks.
Log Cutting
The cutting equipment must accept the largest logs included in the production plan.

The cutting settings may differ between soft toilet paper logs and larger kitchen towel logs. Blade condition, clamping and feeding speed should be adjusted for the material being processed.

One packing configuration may not efficiently handle every toilet paper and kitchen towel format.
